A group of 144 students from Uplands College participated in the Midmar Mile on Saturday, 12 February. An official at the Midmar Admin office declared that this could be the biggest school group this year. In total the Midmar Mile saw over 16000 entries this year, which earned itself a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s biggest open-water swimming event. Each swimmer who started the race finished. Hannes Hamer was the school’s fastest swimmer at 25:45, and Ashleigh Smart was the fastest girl in 27:36.

Most of the students prepared by taking part in the annual Uplands Mile at Da Gama Dam. We hope to see more swimmers from all over using this event as preparation, as it is perfect timing two weeks before Midmar.
