The
Founders Evening in May 2010, as always,
was a highlight on our cultural calendar
with Founders evening and selected
items from the Inter-House Music Competition.
The
Uplands Founders, Board, staff, parents,
friends and pupils joined the College
on Thursday to celebrate our 13th
birthday.
The
symbolic candle-lighting ceremony,
our oldest and most revered tradition,
was led by Mr Gavin Sinclair, Headmaster
of Uplands Prep School, and Father
Terry Mitchell. The flame of the Founders
candle represents knowledge, passed
from candle to candle and throughout
the school and community, symbolising
the progression of the College out
of the Prep. Mr Sinclair lit the candle
in the spirit of continuing the Prep
tradition and ethos. This light was
passed on by two Grade 7 pupils, Jenna
Rankin and Brandon Cordeiro, to representatives
from each of the grades in the College
until all the candles were lit.
Thereafter,
our pupils provided outstanding entertainment.
Individual performers, the Orchestra,
Choir and Drama department showed
their talents to a very appreciative
audience. Mrs Gerda Smook, our adjudicator,
handed out awards for the Inter-House
Music Competition. This year’s
winning House was Bishop House, with
College House a very close second.
Individual
winners were:
